Day 1. Welcome to Saariselka
Your experience to explore best place to see northern lights begins with a private transfer from Ivalo airport, with Rovaniemi, Kemi or Helsinki transfers also optional. You will be taken to the magical village of Saariselkä, where one of the region’s best hotels awaits. This will be your accommodation for the first two nights of the tour.
Spend your first day at complete leisure, with plenty of time to explore Saariselkä in all its beauty. Located in a fell area, the village is the perfect base for exploring the superb Arctic forest land, with endless views of breathtaking landscapes. With just a few hundred inhabitants, the area is certainly free of crowds and a great way to discover true Lapland life.
Day 2. Snowmobiles, reindeers, and spectacular sights
Following your day of discovery, day two begins with a hearty buffet breakfast at the hotel. Then it’s onto the three-hour snowmobile safari, taking you to every nature-lover’s dream – a reindeer farm. Jump onto an adrenaline-packed ride on your own snowmobile, with the fresh Arctic wind brushing past you at speed.
After the exciting trip there, you get to see the beautiful reindeer in their native habitat, as your Saami host introduces you to the fascinating indigenous culture and reindeer economy of Lapland. Experience Lappish life first hand, as you’re taught how to throw the Lappish lasso and drive the reindeer sleigh for yourself. Before returning, guest can relax and enjoy a coffee as they learn even more about the unique Lapland culture.
Onto the evening and your wilderness adventure has a real treat in store. A comfortable minibus will take you to one of the best places to see the Northern Lights. The Aurora Borealis adventure tour lasts three hours, during which you will be able to roam the nearby forest and try to spot the Northern Lights from inside an igloo. If that wasn’t enough, your tour guide will also build an open fire. Relax and enjoy a snack as you sit around a glowing campfire in the idyllic Arctic surroundings.
Day 3. Explore the Muotka wilderness
On your third day – after breakfast – you will travel into the wilderness, taking a private transfer to the Muotka Wilderness lodge. This beautiful hotel is complete with newly built Aurora glass cabins – your accommodation for the night which is the best place to see northern lights. With your own private sauna, fireplace, double bed and panoramic window, this is yet another contender for the best place to see the Northern Lights away from any light pollution.
From here, you will be taken on an incredible husky safari. It all starts with your own husky driving lesson. The infectiously excited huskies will take you through the spectacular Muotka region on a shared two-person sled. It’s an absolute must-do on any Lapland holiday, allowing you to take in authentic Lapland surroundings as the gorgeous huskies fall silent far away from all the tourist traps.
Day 4. Good buy Muotka and Saariselka
Day four and it isn’t over yet. After breakfast, you still have plenty of time to explore the magical Muotka wilderness. Take your time to explore the amazing natural surroundings without the crowds, before returning to Ivalo airport on your private transfer – with Rovaniemi, Kirkenes, Kemi and Helsinki transfers also available.
